There’s been a quiet but consistent shift in Ghana’s underground scene. While most ears have been tuned into chart-topping anthems and viral dance hits, one artist has been shaping something different. Something slower to rise, but impossible to ignore.
Xnaiq, the Kumasi-bred musician who’s been active over the years, is redefining what it means to be a multi-genre artist. His catalog pulls from hip-hop, Afro-trap, classical influences, and even industrial textures to create a sound that feels personal, yet globally curious.
That experimentation is paying off. In 2024 alone, Xnaiq released a wave of singles that stretched his range even further. Funfooler, Legon Girl, Asem, and Do For Mama gave listeners a glimpse into different corners of his world. The songs didn’t fight for mainstream attention. They invited listeners into storytelling, often entrenched in introspection and life’s smaller details.
Still, some tracks managed to break through. His 2023 single Gimme featuring Oseikrom Sikanii quickly found footing on streaming platforms, driven by street-level grit and sharp vocals. Then came Groovi, and shortly after, Wedding with Cwesi Kay, a track that opened his sound up to new, more romantic textures.
But it is Yaanom, a new release in 2025 featuring Cwesi Kay and produced by Sambii TSB, that is truly beginning to turn the tide. With over 10,000 streams on Audiomack, the track has quickly sparked new conversations. He isn’t experimenting anymore, he is connecting.
It’s not only his solo work that’s gaining momentum. His collaborative resume is equally long and full of range, from hard-hitting group tracks like Anadwo with Jay Bahd, Sammy Black, and Braabenk, to introspective efforts like Feelings with Kwesi Songs. He’s joined forces with artists like Black Sherif, Fad Lan, Beeztrap Kotm, Guchy Yung, Starflexx Armani, and Walker Mallow.
His 2022 album Vibration After Graduation remains a touchstone for longtime fans, a record that captured the artist in transition, still tied to where he comes from, but already leaning toward the future. And now, with back-to-back performances and growing media attention, it’s clear that the future is closer than it once seemed.
Xnaiq’s sound is open to influence and constantly evolving. Each track of his adds something new.
