Creative Ascent Maiden Meetup Marks a New Era for Kumasi’s Creatives

On Saturday, August 2, 2025, Kumasi witnessed a defining moment for its creative community. The maiden edition of Creative Ascent, hosted by Meraki Channels, gathered some of the city’s brightest creatives, entrepreneurs, and visionaries at Vegas Lounge for a day of conversations, challenges, and connections that felt both refreshing and revolutionary.

With the theme “Turning Passion into Profession,” the event set the tone for a thought-provoking day that explored what it truly means to shift from being a hobbyist to becoming a professional creative. By the end of the evening, attendees didn’t just leave with contacts — they left with renewed clarity, confidence, and a sense of belonging to a community that is set to redefine Kumasi’s creative economy.

The day began with a series of fun yet intentional activities — icebreaker games and group challenges designed to help strangers connect, unlock creative spontaneity, and set the stage for deeper conversations. These moments, filled with laughter and collaboration, reminded everyone that creativity often flourishes best in play and community.

From this energy, the evening naturally transitioned into the highlight of the event: the panel discussion. On stage were some of Ghana’s and the city’s most respected voices in the creative and entrepreneurial space. Kojo Cue, renowned rapper and storyteller, Majid, drone pilot and founder of AeroVision, Innocent K. Boateng, esteemed graphic designer, Akwasi Boateng, serial entrepreneur in arts and technology.

The session was moderated by Naa Mawufemor, Creative Tech entrepreneur and Creative Lead at Meraki Channels, whose thoughtful questions anchored the conversation and drew out nuanced reflections.

Together, the panelists dug deep into what it truly means to turn passion into a profession. The discussion delved deeply into the discipline required to transform raw talent into a sustainable career, as well as the mindset shift from “doing what you love” to “doing what pays.” Panelists unpacked the discipline required to treat creativity as a business — embracing structure, consistency, and accountability. They also explored one of the most pressing struggles in the industry: imposter syndrome. Many creatives, despite their talent, often fail to see themselves as professionals. The panel stressed the importance of owning your value, showing up confidently, and building systems that allow creativity to flourish sustainably.

Another powerful theme that emerged was how technology and innovation are opening new frontiers for creatives, as well as the importance of building businesses that thrive at the intersection of art, commerce, and digitalization.

As Innocent captured in his post-event reflections: “I was honored to share the stage with some brilliant minds in the creative space… Together, we engaged with a passionate audience of creatives, entrepreneurs, fashion designers, and visionaries who are at various parts of their professional journey.”

Beyond inspiration, Creative Ascent’s mission was clear. This initiative is part of Meraki Channels’ broader effort to keep Kumasi’s creative and business scene alive while equipping individuals with the skills and tools to digitize their ventures. By bridging the technological gap between creatives, entrepreneurs, and businesses, Creative Ascent is ensuring that local talent doesn’t just survive but thrives in a digital-first economy.

More Than an Event: The Start of a Community

As the formal sessions wound down, the day transitioned seamlessly into snacks, casual conversations, and open networking. In clusters across the lounge, creatives traded contacts, pitched ideas, and shared experiences. Some walked away with new collaborators, others with mentors, and many with the validation that they were not alone in their journey. The buzz of connection was undeniable.

What began on August 2nd at Vegas Lounge was more than a meetup; it was the birth of a platform for change. Creative Ascent is positioning itself as a catalyst for transformation in Kumasi’s creative and entrepreneurial ecosystem — a place where conversations lead to clarity, and connections evolve into collaborations. For Kumasi, a city rich with talent yet often overshadowed in global creative conversations, the event proved that its creatives are not just participants in the industry but pioneers ready to shape it.

As Meraki Channels looks ahead, the vision is clear: to continue creating spaces where creatives and businesses can grow, collaborate, and own their journey.

For those who were present, the day was unforgettable. For those yet to join, Creative Ascent is just getting started. And the journey continues — this Saturday, August 30, 2025, we return to Vegas Lounge, Patasi for another inspiring edition.
